Quality Standards for MIA Medical Consultant Web
Sites
Medical Internet Associates understand that visitors to medical web sites want
reliable information, and that medical governing bodies have guidelines with regards to
medical professionals publishing on the Internet.
To this end, MIA have published its own quality standards which are applied to all
medical web sites we produce, thus ensuring adherence to guidelines and providing
quality information to web site visitors, increasing their confidence.
Medical consultants are advised of any possible issues with guidelines during the web
site creation process.
Below are some examples of our quality standards:
- Web site content should be authored by medical/health professionals.
- Web site content should be factual and verifiable.
- Web site should contain privacy and confidentiality statement.
- Web site should contain advisory statement that patients cannot usually be seen or
treated by medical specialists without an appropriate referral.
- Professional qualifications should be displayed and should be linked to the web site of
the issuing organisation.
- Last modification date should be displayed on each page.
- No comparisons with the services provided by medical colleagues must be made.
